Do you want to increase the efficiency of your solar cells?
The Glassomer process allows for fabrication of micro- and nanostructured glass surfaces that can reduce reflection losses.

NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR MORE EFFICIENT SOLAR CELLS

Renewable energy sources are the future of energy production. Do you want to increase the efficiency of your solar cells? Try reducing reflection losses using structured glass surfaces made by Glassomer.

The Challenge

To overcome the theoretical efficiency limit of solar cells, optical coatings for efficient light concentration or reduced reflection losses are key. Such coatings have to withstand the high temperatures of full exposure to sunlight as well as be highly transparent.
This combination is achieved by glasses and cannot be achieved by polymers. However, structuring glass on a large scale with small structures is costly and time-consuming.

The Solution

Glassomer offers an easy way of glass structuring on the micro- and nanoscale by injection molding or casting. Using roll-to-roll replication this process can be extended to large-scale surface structuring in the future.

BENEFITS

Glass withstands the intense heat of the sun and is ideally suited for improving solar cell design.
